MIT Rules & Format

The official playing rules will be the national federation of state high school rules for the current year as modified by AAU (stopped clock).

* All overtimes should be 3 minutes for the first overtime, 2 minutes for the second overtime and 1 minutes for the third overtime (all ages/grades). Any overtime past three overtimes will be given 1 minute on the clock until a winner is determined. All timeouts carry over in all over times.

GAME BALL:
The official game size basketball for 8u, 9u, 10, 11u & 12u is 28.5.
The official game size basketball for 13u, 14u, 15u, 16u & 17u is 29.5.
Girls all ages will use a 28.5 ball for the tournament.

TIME OUTS:
Each team will be given three full and two thirty’s for the game.

OTHER RULES:

1.Each team will be given 5 minutes to warm up and 5 minutes for halftime. (The game time will also be the forfeit time. No grace period will be allowed).
2.Mercy Rule: teams ahead by 20 or more points in the game will result in a running clock. If the lead drops below 20 points normal rules (stopped clock) will resume.
3.Each team is allowed three coaches and all players free admission. All coaches and players must be listed on the tournament roster. We will not add any players to a roster after the tournament deadline (NO EXCEPTIONS). All coaches will have to show their Drivers License and be listed on a roster to receive a coaches wristband (NO EXCEPTIONS).
4.Teams will shoot one and one on the seventh team foul and two shots (bonus) on the tenth team foul. A player will be disqualified on the 5th team foul (boys and girls).
5.Dress Code: All Coaches Male/Female must be dressed in collared shirt and casual pants/shorts while coaching or sitting on the bench all tournament (No Exceptions). Failure to comply with the tournament dress code will result in that team receiving a technical foul before the game starts. There will be absolutely no athletic wear (tee shirts, hats, athletic shorts, flip flops etc) permitted on the bench while coaching.

Age Base Competition Rules
7 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 7 on or before August 31, 2024.
8 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 8 on or before August 31, 2024.
9 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 9 on or before August 31, 2024.
10 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 10 on or before August 31, 2024.
11 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 11 on or before August 31, 2024.
12 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 12 on or before August 31, 2024.
13 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 13 on or before August 31, 2024.
14 & Under
An athlete can be no older than 14 on or before August 31, 2024.

Grade Base Competition Rules
2nd Grade
An athlete must be in the 2nd grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 9 on or before August 31, 2024.
3rd Grade
An athlete must be in the 3rd grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 10 on or before August 31, 2024.
4th Grade
An athlete must be in the 4th grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 11 on or before August 31, 2024.
5th Grade
An athlete must be in the 5th grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 12 on or before August 31, 2024.
6th Grade
An athlete must be in the 6th grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 13 on or before August 31, 2024.
7th Grade
An athlete must be in the 7th grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 14 on or before August 31, 2024.
8th Grade
An athlete must be in the 8th grade or below as of October 1, 2023 and can be no older than 15 on or before August 31, 2024.

High School Competition Rules
15U/9TH GRADE
An athlete can be no older than 15 on or before August 31, 2024.
Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 9th Grade as of October 1, 2023 and who is no older than 16 on or before August 31, 2024 is eligible to compete in the 15U/9th Grade division.
16U/10TH GRADE
An athlete can be no older than 16 on or before August 31, 2024.
Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 10th Grade as of October 1, 2023 and who is no older than 17 on or before August 31, 2024 is eligible to compete in the 16U/10th Grade division.
17U/11TH GRADE
An athlete can be no older than 17 on or before August 31, 2024.
Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 11th Grade as of October 1, 2023 and who is no older than 18 on or before August 31, 2024 is eligible to compete in the 17U/11th Grade division.
19U/12TH GRADE
An athlete can be no older than 19 on or before August 31, 2024
Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 12th Grade as of October 1, 2023 and who is no older than 20 on or before August 31, 2024 is eligible to compete in the 19U/12th Grade division.

2022 Accepted Eligibility Material Option for National Championships
1. Electronic Age Verification through SportsAge ID. (Meets age and photo ID requirements)
2. Valid Passport (Meets age and photo ID requirements)
3. Valid Driver’s License or Learner’s Permit (Meets age and photo ID requirements)
4. Military ID card (Meets age and photo ID requirements)
6. Report Card (Meets grade requirement, proof of photo identification for eligibility must be available for review
IMPORTANT NOTES
1. Photo Identification eligibility material is REQUIRED at National Championship events for all athletes.
2. It is the teams responsibility to determine an athletes eligibility prior to signing up for the event.
3. Proof of age and/or grade must be available for review, by an AAU designee at all AAU licensed competitions, if requested.
4. Non-compliance with the proof of eligibility rule will result in players being disqualified.

PROTESTS:
All protest must be submitted in writing before playing a particular team (We will not accept protest after a team loses to a particular team) and accompanied by $100 in cash. The protesting teams $100 will be refunded if the protest is upheld and forfeited if the protest is not upheld. All teams being protested must produce a valid ID card, birth certificate and a current semester report card on demand. Failure to produce ALL documents will result in an automatic player disqualification and the team forfeiting all games the disqualified player participated in. A final decision will be made by the tournament director and will not be subject to any further discussion.
